Appearance and Properties: Colorless, lustrous, monoclinic, flaky or columnar crystals; rhombic crystals at 92℃. Easily soluble in water (endothermic reaction), soluble in ethanol, alkali metal hydroxides, acetone, pyridine, and liquid sulfur dioxide; slightly soluble in chloroform (trichloromethane). The solution turns red under sunlight.
Applications: In the inorganic industry, it is used to manufacture cyanides, thiocyanates, ferrocyanides, thiourea, and as an auxiliary material in hydrogen peroxide production.
In the organic industry, it is used as a polymerization catalyst.
In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used in the synthesis and separation processes of antibiotics. In electroplating, it is used for zinc plating. In the dyeing industry, it is used as a dyeing dispersant.
In the pesticide industry, it is used to manufacture leaf-brightening agents, etc.
In the steel industry, it is used to prepare pickling agents. In analytical chemistry, it is used for the determination of silver, mercury, trace iron, nitrogen content analysis in pesticides, water quality analysis, and the preparation of standard thiocyanate solutions, etc.
Used as a blackening agent in black nickel plating electrolytes and in analytical chemistry for the determination of iron and silver ions in electrolytes.
