Electronic grade ammonium hydroxide is obtained by purifying industrial synthetic ammonia. In integrated circuit manufacturing, it is mainly used in silicon wafer cleaning and etching processes, and can be used in combination with hydrogen peroxide and hydrofluoric acid.

Ammonia water is mainly used as fertilizer, suitable for various soils and crops. The concentration of ammonia water that can be safely absorbed by crops is <0.05%. In order to reduce ammonia volatilization and alkalinity, carbon dioxide is sometimes introduced into ammonia water in agriculture to produce carbonated ammonia water, with an ammonia content generally greater than 15%. Its effect is the same as ordinary ammonia water, but it is easier to use.
