  Ammonium thiocyanate is an inorganic ammonium salt composed of ammonium ions and thiocyanate ions, with a molecular formula of NH4SCN. It is deliquescent in air, exhibits an endothermic reaction when dissolved in water, and decomposes into ammonia and carbon disulfide when reacted with hydrogen sulfide at 170℃. It can be used as a herbicide.
  Uses
  Ammonium thiocyanate can be used to manufacture herbicides, thiourea, and transparent synthetic resins. It can also be used in colorimetric determination of iron content in soft drinks.
  Preparation
  Ammonium thiocyanate is obtained from the reaction of carbon disulfide and aqueous ammonia. This reaction produces ammonium dithiocarbamate as an intermediate, which decomposes into ammonium thiocyanate and hydrogen sulfide upon heating:
